The email
Each numbered gap is a drop-down on the test. The options and the answers are under the questions below.
Questions and answer key
1Gap 1 in the email
- ✓2:15 p.m.
- B5:30 p.m.
- C8:30 a.m.
- D11:45 a.m.
Answer: A (2:15 p.m.)
Landing at 1:00 p.m. plus 'at least 60 minutes' means departures from 2:00 p.m.; the first after that is 2:15 p.m. 11:45 a.m. and 8:30 a.m. leave before the plane lands, and 5:30 p.m. is not the earliest.
2Gap 2 in the email
- A3:45 p.m.
- ✓4:50 p.m.
- C11:35 p.m.
- D4:05 p.m.
Answer: B (4:50 p.m.)
On the 2:15 p.m. row, 'Arrives Lake Louise' is 4:50 p.m. 4:05 p.m. is the Banff arrival and 3:45 p.m. the Canmore arrival on the same bus; 11:35 p.m. belongs to the 9:00 p.m. bus.
3Gap 3 in the email
- A$69
- B$39.50
- ✓$79
- D$89
Answer: C ($79)
The 2:15 p.m. departure lists an adult fare of $79. $69 applies to the 11:45 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. buses, $89 to the 9:00 p.m. bus, and $39.50 is a child fare.
4Gap 4 in the email
- A$79
- ✓$39.50
- C$34.50
- Dnothing
Answer: B ($39.50)
The note says children aged 2 to 11 'pay half the adult fare', and half of $79 is $39.50. $34.50 is half of the $69 fare on other buses; Maya is not under 2, so she does not ride free.
5Gap 5 in the email
- A$158
- B$103.50
- C$148
- ✓$118.50
Answer: D ($118.50)
Adult $79 + child $39.50 = $118.50. $158 charges Maya the full adult fare; $103.50 uses the $69 fare; $148 adds $79 and $69.
6Which departures do not go to Lake Louise?
- AThe 2:15 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. buses
- BThe 8:30 a.m. and 2:15 p.m. buses
- ✓The 11:45 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. buses
- DThe 9:00 p.m. bus only
Answer: C
Only the 11:45 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. rows show 'No service' in the Lake Louise column. The 8:30 a.m., 2:15 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. buses all list an arrival time there.
7If Tomás's flight lands at 2:00 p.m. instead, which is the earliest shuttle that would take them to Lake Louise?
- AThe 2:15 p.m. bus
- BThe 5:30 p.m. bus
- ✓The 9:00 p.m. bus
- DThe 8:30 a.m. bus the next day
Answer: C
With 60 minutes needed, they could leave from 3:00 p.m. The 5:30 p.m. bus has 'No service' to Lake Louise, so the next one going there is 9:00 p.m. The 2:15 p.m. bus leaves too soon after landing.
8How long does the trip from the airport to Banff take?
- A1 hour 30 minutes
- ✓1 hour 50 minutes
- C2 hours 35 minutes
- D20 minutes
Answer: B
Every bus reaches Banff 1 hour 50 minutes after leaving the airport (for example, 8:30 to 10:20 a.m.). 1 hour 30 minutes is the time to Canmore, 2 hours 35 minutes the time to Lake Louise, and 20 minutes the Canmore-to-Banff leg.
