130 words · no sign-upLast winter I signed up for a pottery class at a community centre in Victoria. I'd always wanted to try it, and after a stressful year at work I needed something completely different. The first class was a disaster. My clay kept collapsing on the wheel, and I was covered in mud by the end. But the instructor was very patient, and she kept saying that everyone's first ten bowls are ugly. By the fourth week I managed to make a small bowl that was almost round, and I was ridiculously proud of it. What I enjoyed most was that for two hours every Thursday I didn't think about work at all. I still use that bowl for my keys, and I'm planning to take the advanced class this spring.
Why this answer works
- Gives a reason for joining, an early struggle and progress, which makes a complete mini-story.
- Light humour (ridiculously proud) shows comfortable, natural spoken English.
- Answers both questions in the prompt: what the speaker learned and what they enjoyed.
