I would prefer Option A, holding the market on Thursday evenings in the downtown square, because it would support local businesses and fit people's routines better. To begin with, a weekday evening market would bring life to downtown at a time when it is usually quiet. Many shops and cafés on Main Street close early because there are few customers after five. If hundreds of people came to the square every Thursday, those businesses could stay open longer and benefit from the extra visitors. A parking lot at the arena, by contrast, is far from any other shops. In addition, Thursday evening is a convenient time for shopping. People could stop by on their way home from work and pick up fresh vegetables, bread and berries for the weekend. In July, it stays light until well after nine, so families could also enjoy live music and a meal outdoors. Saturday mornings are popular in many cities, but in our town they are already busy with children's sports, garage sales and trips to the lake. A Thursday market would not compete with those activities. That is why I believe Option A is the better choice.
