Model answer · CLB 9
188 words · no sign-upI would choose Option B, a free daily breakfast, because it would help the most children and improve their learning every single morning. My first reason is that many students arrive at school hungry. Parents often leave for work very early, and some families simply cannot afford a proper breakfast every day. My son's teacher told me that a few children in his class have trouble concentrating before recess because they have not eaten anything since dinner. A simple meal of cereal, fruit and milk would give them the energy to focus on reading and math. My second reason is that the program would be free and available every day. Even at a reduced price, a $4 lunch costs a family with three children $36 a week, which is too much for some households. Those families would be left out, even though they need help the most. A free breakfast avoids this problem, and no child would feel embarrassed for not participating. A hot lunch would certainly be welcome in winter. Still, most children already bring a lunch from home. That is why I strongly support Option B.
Why this answer works
- The teacher's comment about children who cannot concentrate before recess grounds the first reason in a real school setting.
- It calculates the weekly cost for a family with three children, making clever use of the price in the prompt.
- The point about children not feeling embarrassed shows sensitivity and a well-developed argument.
