135 words · no sign-upLast spring, my community association in Edmonton organized a cleanup day along the river valley, and I decided to sign up with my two teenagers. We met at a park early on a Saturday morning, and the organizers gave everyone gloves, garbage bags and a map of the area we were responsible for. I was honestly shocked at how much litter there was: coffee cups, plastic bottles, even an old bicycle tire. By lunchtime our group had filled about thirty bags. The city provided free hot dogs at the end, and the kids actually said it was fun, which surprised me. What I liked most was meeting people from my area that I had only ever waved to before. Since then, we've joined two more events, and my son now volunteers at the community garden.
Why this answer works
- Specific Canadian setting and details make the answer vivid and believable.
- Mixes facts (thirty bags, by lunchtime) with reactions (I was honestly shocked), which keeps it engaging.
- Uses the present perfect correctly for the ongoing result: we've joined two more events.
