First, trees improve the environment for everyone, not just one age group. Second, trees require far less ongoing maintenance and reduce long-term costs. A playground needs regular safety inspections, equipment repairs, and liability insurance, while newly planted trees mainly need occasional watering during their first few years. This makes tree planting a more practical long-term investment for a community with a limited budget.

For these reasons, I support spending the extra funds on planting trees rather than building a playground.
